The festival goes on…
Date published: 10 July 2009
Organisers of the Feel Good Festival that is underway in Rochdale town centre have pledged “the show goes on" despite the shooting incident on the outskirts of the town centre earlier today (Friday 10 July). Visitors are already in town enjoying the delights from the food market on The Butts.
Visitors to the festival will also be entertained by a range of street performers including performances from Skylight Circus Arts and celebrity chef demonstrations from Aldo Zilli and Aazam Ahma.
Tomorrow (Saturday 11 July) is the music day, kicking off at noon and ending around 4am with a set by Manchester’s very own uber-DJs, Unabombers.
The Bluetones headline the mainstage stage in the Town Hall Square and will be serving up musical treats from a greatest hits set including Slight Return, Cut Some Rug, Marblehead Johnson and Bluetonic, etc
Also on the main stage will be Bristol’s folk rockers, Babel, art rock disco and NME favourites, Liverpool’s Wave Machines and Manchester’s very own Glastonbury new talent award winners, The Travelling Band.
The events will take place across eight venues in the town and feature nearly thirty acts creating a diversity from several walks of the musical stratosphere, including folk, dance, non- classical, electronica, indie guitar and blues.
The includes: Erland and the Carnival, Magic Arm, Liz Green, Cats In Paris, The Suzukis, Denis Jones, Tim and Sam’s Tim and the Sam Band, Sophie's Pigeons, Young British Artists, Ivan Campo, Gabriel Prokofiev and new emerging talent will be represented by Lost Knives, currently being chased by a multitude of record labels.
Rochdale will be doubly represented by Fat Northerner singing The Hidden Revolution and local bluesman, Will Tang.
A text message feedback service has been set up allowing visitors to the festival the chance to let the organisers know what they think of the event.
Chairman of Rochdale Township Committee, Councillor Andrew Abbott explained the thought process behind setting up the text reply service: “We are all hoping that the event will fulfil it’s original agenda of engaging people and encouraging visitors to the town centre.”
To send your thoughts on the festival simply send your text message to 60300 and start your text with the word 'Council'.
