Name for new school revealed
Date published: 09 July 2009
Kingsway Park High School is to be the name for the new school that is being developed by the amalgamation of Balderstone Technology College and Springhill High School.
Representatives from the new school governing body put forward the name after consultation with students from Balderstone and Springhill, as well as local primary schools and the community.
The name was agreed by councillors at the Rochdale Township Committee Meeting last night.
Students from both schools produced a DVD suggesting names. They have also been involved in other exercises such as designing the new school uniform, putting forward their imaginative design ideas.
Pam Coward, Chairman of Governors for the new school, said: “I am delighted with this news. We now have a name for our new school. Governors agreed on Kingsway Park after listening to what the students had to say.”
Sue Brown, Head of Schools at Rochdale Council, said: ”It is a very exciting moment now that the school has a new name and a new Headteacher appointed. These are important steps in building and developing a new school. We are excited to be involved in establishing Kingsway Park High School within the community it will serve.”
