New GPs set for Smallbridge practice

Date published: 08 July 2009

A new GP practice will officially open in Smallbridge on 1st August- the first of five new GP services planned for the borough this year.

As part of a £18 million investment by NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, ‘The Smallbridge Medical Practice’ will provide much needed medical services with the help of two new GPs.

Dr Annuradha and Dr Syed are joining the practice in July and October.

The practice will provide all routine GP services such as check ups and tests but it will also have a focus on cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, stop smoking and weight management, as well as providing a Choose and Book service which allows patients to choose what hospital they wish to attend for treatment.

Vivienne Ben-David, commissioning lead for primary care, adults and older people, said: “With two more GP’s the practice will provide the additional resource needed to start tackling key health issues in the Smallbridge area, as well as providing routine treatment and care. It will help to make getting a GP appointment easier and relive some pressure from GPs in the surrounding area.

“The new GP services are proactive in their nature and will actively seek out people that need care but may not know it by entering into the local community and encouraging patients to be involved. Intrahealth is a proven healthcare provider and was selected after a rigorous procurement process for their innovative and evidence-based approach to delivering primary care.”

The practice will provide appointments between 8.00am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday, as well as between 8.00am and 12.00pm on Saturdays.

Work has also started on the new practice at Morrisons on Kingsway, which will be opening in November.
