Thugs attack 82-year-old woman as she walks to shops

Date published: 08 July 2009

Heartless muggers pushed an 82-year old woman to the ground and robbed her of her purse and bus pass on Monday (6 July)

Police are hunting down the muggers who struck the pensioner in broad daylight as she walked to the shops on Wood Street in Middleton at 2.00pm.

A small amount of cash was taken and the woman was said to be left extremely shaken.

The offenders, who were white, are described as young men, wearing jeans and hoodies.

Sergeant Lindsay Wallbank, of Rochdale Volume Crime Team, said: "This poor woman was walking to the shops when these two yobs pushed her over and stole her handbag.

"At that time of day I'm sure there would have been people out shopping and I am appealing for anyone who saw the incident, or two youths acting suspiciously in the area, to call us."

Anyone with information is asked to call Rochdale Vvolume Crime Team on 0161 856 4052 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
