Date published: 06 July 2009

A group of nine Asian teenagers huddled into the dock at Rochdale Magistrates Court this afternoon (Monday 6 July), charged in connection with the near-death of a teenage boy, after an alleged gang fight in a Rochdale park.

It is believed a group of about 12 white youths were attacked by a group of Asian youths in Denehurst Park on 23 May 2008.

One boy was left with bleeding on the brain, which required emergency surgery.

Three defendants have been charged with attempted murder.

A group also attacked three other young people on Rochdale golf course before carrying out other assaults at Heaton Park tram station.

Ajay Singh 18, of Fulford Street, Old Trafford, and two 17-year-old boys from Old Trafford, were charged with attempted murder, violent disorder, robbery and affray.

Faizan Samirudin, 18, of Grosvenor House Mews, Crumpsall, was charged with attempted murder in May 2008, and has now been further charged with violent disorder, robbery and affray.

Three 17-year-old boys from Old Trafford, a 17-year-old boy from Whalley Range, and a 17-year-old boy from Stretford were all charged with violent disorder, robbery and affray.

The group today appeared before the bench to confirm their details, and will appear at Bolton Crown Court on 22 September (2009).
