Recession hits 'low-skilled' Rochdale
Date published: 06 July 2009
Rochdale is being hardest hit by the recession because it has a large number of poorly skilled workers, according to a national study.
The study by the Work Foundation found that towns such as Rochdale are faring worse than the likes of Cambridge, York and Oxford, whose workers have a stronger skills profile.
Rochdale has suffered large increases in unemployment and researchers believe this is directly linked to the town's 'low skill' level.
