The girls take a trip to the turbines on Scout Moor
Rochdale’s British Asian Girls group (BAG) took a trip up to the wind farm on Scout Moor to learn about renewable energy and the environment.
The group got as close as possible to the turbines, where they were given information about how they work.
Co-ordinators of the project Attiya Malik and Samina Hussain say they orgainised the trip to provide both social and educational opportunities for the girls.
Attiya Malik said: “Instead of a centre-based session, some of the girls were keen to be outside on such a lovely day and we combined a visit to the location, which is the largest onshore Wind Farm in England, with a good walk, although we did have a mini bus to get to the site."
The Rochdale BAG project aims to offer a range of social and learning opportunities to enable Muslim girls & young women to build capacity, develop potential, challenge stereotyping, drive out myths and ultimately make a real difference towards safer communities.
