The Doorstep Lorry rolls into town

Date published: 30 May 2007

The Doorstep Project Lorry will roll into the borough for the first time this week as it parks up for parents and children to come and play.  The half term taster sessions will take place at:

  • Springfield Park on Wednesday 30 May from 10am - 2pm
  • Lime Field Park, Manchester Old Road, Middleton on Thursday 31 May 10 - 2pm
  • Heywood Sports Centre car park and playing fields on Friday 1 June 10 - 2pm

The sessions are open free of charge to parents and children.  Visitors can look forward to a wide range of activities free of charge including badge making, arts and crafts, games, dance and most of all lots of fun.

The Doorstep Project is a mobile facility that will take fun activities into neighbourhoods.

Various activities will be focussed around children, young people and adults, and will be available right on the doorstep! The centre on wheels has a disabled access, baby changing area and space for lots of fun and informative activities.

Being mobile means that the facility will reach into neighbourhoods to deliver a wide range of activities such as play sessions, crèches, information and consultation sessions, outreach work, etc.

The Doorstep Project will have a wide range of resources of its own and partner with Rochdale Play Resource Centre and Toy Library for additional resources and equipment.

Play Co-ordinator, Irene Dilkes said: "This will be the first of many outings for The Doorstep Project.  We are able to park up in the heart of neighbourhoods so that everyone has access to play facilities, resources, and advice.  Everyone is welcome to come and have a look at what is on offer."
