National Childminders Day comes to Heywood

Date published: 18 June 2007

Childminders from across Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton will come together at Heywood Civic Centre on Tuesday 19 June for a celebration of National Childminders day. The day has been organised by the Rochdale Childminders Network in partnership with Sure Start. They will be joined by groups around the country in celebrating their successes over the year and to talk more about the latest legislation and changes to childminding practice.

This year the theme of the event will be 'Supporting Families' and will look at how best to support the different make up of families that childminders come into contact with.

There will be stalls and interactive activities for childminders to see the latest services available to them. All delegates are asked to bring entries to a competition to design a new logo. This is to be designed by the children who are looked after in childminder care. They will be judged on the day and a prize will be given to the winning entry.

There are registered childminders across the Rochdale borough and this event gives an opportunity for them to gather to chat and update on best practice. The celebration has now become an annual event.

Event organiser, Deborah Middleton said: “These events are always good fun and a chance for childminders to catch up with each other; something particularly important for childminders who often work alone. There will be lots of useful information and plenty of new ideas for the childminders.”

The event runs from 9.30am – 3.30pm.
