Budding sports heroes score top award

Budding sports heroes were awarded by the Mayor of Rochdale for their outstanding achievements in PE.
Three pupils from St John’s RC School were personally praised by the Mayor, Councillor Keith Swift, for performing well above their age in sports activities.
Axel Tuanzebe and Anthalie Mukambilwa won sports boy and sports girl of the year, while Patricia Diba won the ‘top PE pupil’ award.
The Mayor said: “I am really impressed with the achievements of this school.
“The pupils here are ambitious, and between them can speak 26 different languages.
“There is a great feeling of cohesion and unity, and I am pleased to be able to give these awards to the sports pupils.”
Sports co-ordinator Chris Hickman said: “We wanted to award the pupils for making such great progress in sports.
“Patricia Diba has made huge progress in PE and has shown such determination.”
