Rochdale Legal Advice Partnership launch
Date published: 21 June 2009
The Rochdale Legal Advice Partnership Project is being launched by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift. The project is funded by the Big Lottery – Advice Plus (BIG) and is being launched at the Rochdale Town Hall, Zodiac Suite. Jim Dobbin MP and Paul Rowen MP will be in attendance amongst councillors and representatives from agencies across the Rochdale borough.
The three providers of legal advice in Rochdale (Rochdale & District Citizens Advice Bureau, Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council Advice Services & Rochdale Law Centre) are partners in this Project with the aim of creating a network of legal advice referral services. The Project will transform advice delivery services in the Rochdale borough and will be working with Partner Agencies to create accessible legal advice for hard to reach people.
The recession has hit most people and they are stuck with the consequences of the economic downturn with rising unemployment, less disposable income, rising prices and household budgets being stretched to the maximum and need advice on many matters. The Rochdale Legal Advice Partnership helps solve problems which are central to people's lives, including debt and consumer issues, benefits, housing, legal matters, employment, and immigration.
The Project has helped over 100 people so far in the Middleton, Heywood and Rochdale area.
The Rochdale Legal Advice Partnership will become the major provider of advice and over 7,000 people in extremely difficult circumstances will have had their lives improved by avoiding disadvantage through timely, accurate and effective legal advice.
Outreaches have been set up in the partner agencies venues and over 1000 leaflets and 100 posters have been distributed across the Rochdale borough publicising the Project.
The Rochdale Legal Advice Partnership Project is here to help the people of Rochdale when they need it the most.
