Police Community Support Officer Madasir Nasir got his hands dirty as part of an area clean up.

The PCSO who is part of the Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team was taking part in the initiative as part of the team’s beatsweep.

PCSO Nasir was joined by volunteers from the community as well as members of an Urdu class at Castlemere Community Centre based at Tweedale Street in Rochdale to clear up the canal towpath between Well'ith Lane and Oldham Road in Rochdale.

He said: “This was a great way to show the public how police and the community can work together in achieving one goal and in this case it has been to tidy an area that has been problematic for residents.”

Other people to join the group were Councillor Imtiaz Ahmed and town magistrate Ghullam Rasool.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team provided the team of volunteers with bags and gloves.

Items such as glass, take away litter, cans, cigarette buts and carrier bags were found at the site during the clear up. Recyclable items were placed in the suitable containers.

Sergeant Craig Adams, for the Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “It’s great to see that we have been able to clear up an area that was previously unsafe and somewhere that no one wanted to go to. By doing this we have not only helped the environment but helped the community as well.”
