Eight new NHS dentists

Date published: 20 June 2009

Eight new NHS dentists will be operating in the borough before the end of the year.

One new dentist will be located in a practice in Littleborough, a new surgery housing four new dentists will open in Brimrod, a new practice housing two dentists will open in Heywood and another dentist will eventually be located at the planned Middleton joint service centre but will be based at a temporary site until that is open.

The dentists will provide NHS dental treatment. Exact locations and opening times will be revealed when each service is due to open.

New patients will be allocated on a first come first served basis, however places cannot be booked yet and patients are urged not to phone the PCT to do so. Further details will be released closer to the opening time.

Carole Williams, primary care dental lead for NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, said: “We have been working really hard to bring more dental services to the borough and it’s fantastic that we are able to do this before the end of the year.

“Access to NHS dentistry has slowly improved over the past two years but these new services will accommodate in the region of 17,000 new patients when at full capacity, significantly boosting our local NHS dental services.”
