Fence to stop anti-social behaviour
Date published: 18 June 2009
A local contractor has reinstalled an iron fence to end antisocial behaviour and fly-tipped rubbish has been removed by Rochdale Borough Council.
Triad Fabrications Limited, a Rochdale based construction company, came to the community’s aid and reinstalled the fencing for free after vandals ripped down the original fencing on the canal towpath in Newbold.
Jon Leach, Director of Triad Fabrications Limited, said: “We work closely with the council’s community safety team and so when they contacted us for help we wanted to do all that we could to bring some relief to residents who have been having a bad time recently.
“We are salvaging the old fencing from the canal and reinstalling it in the hope that this will end the criminal activity. We are happy to offer our time and labour for free as we know that this fencing is important to improving the lives and wellbeing of many residents.”
Rochdale Borough Council installed the fencing last year and it was proving successful in reducing the levels of crime and disorder in the area. However, since the fencing had been ripped down, many of the old problems such as; antisocial behaviour, fly-tipping and vehicle crime returned. Residents appealed to the council’s community safety team for help.
Yvonne Pickering, Rochdale’s Community Safety Officer for Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We were sorry to hear that residents were experiencing trouble again. We immediately sought to rectify the problem. We are delighted that Triad Fabrications Limited has agreed to reinstall the fencing free of charge. It is a real example of a local company which works with the best interests of the community in mind.
“We have also cleaned up all the rubbish and are committed to taking action against fly-tipping perpetrators. We have already issued three fixed penalty notices so let that be a warning to others.”
