British Armed Forces Day to be marked at Town Hall
Date published: 16 June 2009
Rochdale Council will commemorate British Armed Forces Day with a flag raising ceremony at the town hall next week.
The ceremony, being held at 10.30 am on Monday (22 June) will see the raising of a specially commissioned flag that will fly until the Saturday (27 June) – the first British Armed Forces Day.
The day will provide an opportunity for Rochdale residents to join the rest of the nation in showing support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and new recruits.
Rochdale will be one of many local authorities across the UK holding flag raising ceremonies. It will be attended by the Mayor, the three Party Leaders and Terry Piggott an Executive Director at the Council.
The local branch of the Royal British Legion has been asked to nominate representatives from each of the Armed Services to attend the flag raising ceremony.
