Council staff rise to Commuter Challenge
Date published: 16 June 2009
Commuters ditched their cars for pedal bikes this morning (Tuesday 16 June) as part of a healthy initiative for National Bike Week.
Rochdale Online News reporter Kirsty Rigg pedalled onto The Butts at 8.30am, where she met Rochdale Borough Council’s Executive Director, Andy Zuntz, for a free bacon butty and a cup of tea.
The Commuter Challenge, organised by Rochdale Borough Council’s Sustainability and Development team, is set up to encourage local people to get on their bikes to help save the environment from toxic gases.
Howard Gott, from Sustainability and Development, said: “I rode all the way from Littleborough to Heywood this morning, but I am used to it.
“It is good to see people who are not used to it giving it a go.”
Gez Wood, from the Strategic Housing Team, rode from Calderbrook to Rochdale.
Kirsty Rigg cycled from Passmonds to the Rochdale Online offices in Castleton.
