Kingsway Training helps local people

Date published: 06 July 2007

Justin Jenkinson, 41, from Castleton, had been looking to get back in to employment for three months after a long period of being the full-time carer for a family member. After a meeting with Job Centre Plus, Mr Jenkinson was referred to Pat Ashtonhurst, Senior Outreach  Adviser for the Kingsway Recruitment Team. He met with Pat who suggested completing a training course through the Kingsway Recruitment Team training grants.

This scheme is run by the Kingsway Business Park development and funded through NRF; it provides residents throughout the Borough with the opportunity to gain qualifications by identifying and funding relevant training courses.

Mr Jenkinson was very interested in completing training and discussed with Mr Ashtonhurst the courses that would be relevant to his career plans. They identified two training courses including a course to provide him with the Forklift Truck Driving Licence Card and another for a CSCS Card.

Mr Jenkinson completed the application for a Kingsway Training Grant; two weeks after submitting it to the grants panel, the application was accepted and he began his training.

Justin commented: “The courses allowed me to feel that I was pro-actively playing a role in improving my future. Thanks to the Kingsway training and the confidence this gave me, I have now secured a job with Kingston UPVC Ltd based in Littleborough.”
