Health and Safety clampdown
Date published: 14 June 2009
Health and safety inspectors are targetting construction sites in Rochdale as part of a campaign to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries in the construction industry.
In total the Health and Safety Executive is looking at more than 200 sites across the North West.
In a similar initiative last year 187 inspections were carried out in the region, with enforcement action being taken in 103 cases. The HSE has warned that contractors can once again expect strong enforcement action.
The way in which contractors are managing the risks associated with asbestos is one of the key themes that inspectors will be investigating, while working at height safely and good order on sites will also be key to passing the inspections.
