Feel Good Festival countdown

Date published: 11 June 2009

The Rochdale Feel Good Festival is just a month away.

On Friday 10 and Saturday 11 the town centre will play host to a feast of free live music and entertainment at 8 venues including a main outdoor stage near the Town Hall.

Celebrity chefs Aldo Zilli and Aazam Ahmad will be providing live cooking demonstrations and there’ll be homemade treats and organic foods at the quality food market.

Bands will play from noon until late at 8 venues around the town centre including a main outdoor stage near the Town Hall. The venues are Bar 5, Mango and Pacific all based around South Parade, The Flying Horse Hotel on Packer Street near the Town Hall Square, Touchstones on Smith Street just off The Esplanade and the Broadwater Centre (home of the Backdoor Music Project) located again on Smith Street behind the bus station just off John Street.

Jane Warcaba, Manageress from Bar 5 is delighted to be part of the festival:

“Bar 5 always fully support events that happen in Rochdale town centre. This year the Feel Good Festival will be bigger and better than ever, particularly with the music event and we hope it will bring more visitors to the town and in doing so bring good fortune for the local businesses when we need it most.

"We are very excited to be part of the festival and hope the legacy continues long after the event.”

The festival promises to bring music fans from miles around to the region to enjoy free music from such notable bands as Indie trailblazers The Bluetones, Babel - a folk rock band praised as writers of terrific tunes by Mojo Magazine and triumphant pop music by Clash, The Travelling Band (Winners of the Glastonbury New Talent competition 2008), Unabombers (DJ duo famous for their 10 year’s presenting Electric Chair nights and now the Electric Elephant Festival in Croatia) and The Wave Machines a disco band who played the BBC Electric Proms in 2008.

A two-day food market will be on The Butts near the Town Hall during both days of the festival.

Ben Boothman, Bar Manager at The Flying Horse Hotel said; “In the past five years the flying horse hotel has been proud to have become Rochdale’s first stop for up and coming local bands to showcase themselves to the public and we will always do so, providing local people access to the finest live entertainment spanning all genres.

“With a passion for Rochdale, and a passion for music we are proud to be associated with Rochdale Feel good Festival”
