Get set for Rochdale Grand Prix

Date published: 11 June 2009

The fourth Rochdale Grand Prix will take place in Rochdale town centre on Wednesday 1 July.

Two races will take place - the support race, and the elite riders, both of which will start and finish on The Butts.

There is free entertainment from 2pm, with prizes to be won, at the Pedal Power Action Zone where activities for all ages will include spinning bikes, indoor rowing, target wall and dance mats.

The 11 races in the Elite Men's Circuit Race Series bring out the bike handling skills, quick wits and agility of the best riders in the hard world of road cycling. The event tests some of the UK's best male cyclists to the limit and will provide a range of great racing for fans to watch across the country.

The Rochdale Grand Prix this year will be sponsored and organised locally by Link4Life, the Rochdale Boroughwide Cultural Trust and follows on from the opening of a Cycling Centre at Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre earlier this year.

Speaking about their support for the Grand Prix, Link4Life’s Managing Director, Craig McAteer said, “Cycling is a great participation sport for all ages and it fits very well with our aim to create community opportunities to take part and develop our links with clubs.”

The event is a collaborative effort between British Cycling, Cycling Development North-West, West Pennine Road Club, Rochdale Triathlon Club, Trans Pennine Cycling Club and Rochdale Borough Council and supported by Rochdale Town Centre Management, the Impact Partnership and Greater Manchester Police.
