Woolas keeps job in reshuffle
Date published: 09 June 2009
Phil Woolas has kept his job in a Government reshuffle which sees Gordon Brown fighting for his political life.
The Milnrow and Newhey MP now faces an even tougher time in his role as Immigration Minister after the British National Party took two seats in the European Elections, including one in the North West.
Mr Woolas said: “I am very pleased that the Prime Minister has confidence in me.
“I have made my views on immigration very clear and I am determined to put into place that policy.
“I think this has been a big issues in the recent elections.”
The Labour MP has always said his experience in his Oldham East and Saddleworth constituency shows him how people want reassurance that immigration is fair, tough, and legal. His responsibilities include border security, controlling migration, immigration enforcement, citizenship, international policy and visas.
