Armed thieves smashed their way into a Middleton shop with a sledgehammer and made off with cash.
Staff ran for cover as three men entered Spar, on Stanycliffe Lane at 10.35pm on Thursday (28 May), before raiding the tills and fleeing.
They ran out, and got into a Vauxhall Astra regististration MM57 JPJ.
The car was later found abandoned on Woodhill Close.
The offenders are described as being white men in their late teens and dressed in dark clothing.
Detective Constable Nick Price said: "This was a terrifying experience for the victims, though thankfully they were not hurt.
"We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen this offence taking place, anyone who may have seen the car being driven away from Stanycliffe Lane and abandoned."
"Anyone who can help us should get in touch."
Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 1977 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
