Football fan shot for 'chanting'

An England football supporter, believed to be from Rochdale, has been shot for “chanting” ahead of the World Cup qualifying match against Kazakhstan.

The Foreign Office told Rochdale Online News that the man, in his 30s, was in a bar in Bishkek when the incident happened on Tuesday (2 June).

Other visitors to the bar, believed to be locals, became offended by his chants, shortly before he was shot in the thigh.

The man, rumoured to be a Rotherham supporter, is believed to have returned home having left hospital, and the bullet has been removed.

A FCO (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) spokeswoman said: “We can confirm a British National was was shot in the leg in a bar in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on the 2 June.

The British Honorary Consul in Bishkek is liaising with those involved and with the local Kyrgyz authorities.”
