Primary schools set for redevelopment

Date published: 03 June 2009

Ten local primary schools are to be redeveloped by Rochdale Council.

The plans for the redevelopment were given the go ahead by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

£6.2 Million pounds is to be spent in 2010-11 and will be used to fund extensive improvements at schools across the borough, ensuring they provide high quality accommodation and facilities to meet the needs of the modern curriculum.

The projects agreed for the first four years of the programme are:

Kentmere CP in Rochdale
Deeplish CP in Rochdale
Heybrook CP Rochdale
Lowerplace CP Rochdale
Holy Family RCP Rochdale
St. John’s RCP in Rochdale
St Margaret’s CEP Heywood
Harwood Park CP in Heywood
St. Mary’s RCP in Langley
Little Heaton CEP in Middleton

Terry Piggott, Executive Director for education at Rochdale Council said the announcement was good news for pupils, staff and the community. "The extra investment nationally is fantastic news for schools and is going to make a real difference in our borough,” he said. “This new programme will complement rebuilding work already undertaken or underway. We are delighted to be able to let parents and pupils know that we now have the green light to go ahead with much needed work. I want to see all our schools benefiting from modern state of the art learning facilities.”
