Objection at new doctor's surgery
Date published: 02 June 2009
A doctor has expressed his disapproval at plans of a brand new “rival” doctor’s surgery.
Plans have been approved for flats on Queens Drive, Queensway, to be converted into a brand new surgery, which is feared to compete for business with the surgery on The Strand, Kirkholt.
The GP told the Rochdale Planning Sub Committee tonight (Tuesday 2 June), that the area already has adequate medical services, while the rest of Rochdale is suffering, and suggested they build the practice elsewhere.
He added: “We have more than enough here in Kirkholt. The services we have here are in no way inadequate.
“Rochdale as a whole is under-doctored, so you should be focusing on deprived areas, instead of giving us more than we need, and causing us to have competition.”
Vice Chair, Councillor Angela Coric said: “If the doctors are good, then the patients will stay with them.
“But at the same time, the more doctors we have, the better it is for the patients, which is why I am in favour of this decision.”
