New fire engines for Rochdale
Date published: 02 June 2009
This Thursday (4 June) Rochdale Fire Station will receive two new state of the art fire engines each representing an investment of over £160,000.
The keys to the engines will be handed over by Assistant County Fire Officer (Operations) Tony Ciaramella.
The engines are part of 24 Volvo engines recently purchased by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service costing £3.8 Million and will be replacing a substantial part of the service’s front line fleet.
Officer Ciaramella said: “The Service has an ongoing fire engine replacement programme across the County and these appliances are programmed to have an operational life of 12 years.
“We have no doubt that the residents of Rochdale will benefit from these excellent vehicles, complementing the high quality service already delivered by our fire fighters.”
The engines are cleaner yet more powerful, and are rated to Euro 5 exhaust emission levels which is not due to become a mandatory requirement until October 2009.
