Council unblocks drains – but not in Sudden

Date published: 01 June 2009

Councillor William Hobhouse was surprised to learn that many drains in Sudden Village have not been cleared by the Council as part of the 2008-9 commitment to clear every drain in the borough.

The shock was revealed at a residents’ consultation walkabout in Sudden Village.

The blocked drains are all within a 30 yard space on Manchester Road; one outside Castle Taxis, another at Temperature Electronics and a third outside the chip shop at 379 Manchester Road.

Councillor William Hobhouse said: “This is very disappointing news. I hope the council can sort the matter out within a few weeks.”

In March the Council allocated an additional £120,000 to clearing the borough’s gullies in a year. This additional money was to clear the backlog of gullies.

Councillor Hobhouse added: “It’s not just one gully that’s blocked, its half of the gullies in the village. I know that the work of the gullies crew is made harder by parked cars, but in this case, all it would need is a return to Sudden Village to finish the job.”

Another problem raised by the residents was the standing water around Law Street junction in the village.
