Rotary Club of Rochdale East Crystal Ball

Rotary Club of Rochdale East held their annual ball this evening (Saturday 30 May) at the Masonic Hall. President Ian Sandiford, of Sandifords premier purveyor of fine objet d'art and quality gifts, including Swarovski and Waterford Crystal, set the theme as 'crystal' and very generously provided place names and menus with embedded crystals for each guest, and had 100 beautiful 'Swarovski Crystal' pieces made specially for each female guest.

Guests enjoyed a dinner of: broccoli and stilton soup; roast leg of Welsh lamb with rosemary and mint sauce, roast and new potatoes and seasonal vegetables; chocolate sponge with chocolate sauce; cheese and biscuits with celery; coffee and mints.

Local artist Geoff Butterworth, renowned as one of the best watercolourists in the country, kindly donated a watercolour for the charity raffle: 'By Crystal Waters' is typical of his style and technique, realism and skill with colour and composition. Commenting Ian Sandiford said: "It is a lovely painting and one which will be admired for many years to come."

Mayor Keith Swift and Mayoress Sue Etchells were distinguished guests and Mayor Swift said he was delighted to be supporting the ball, which was in aid of Springhill Hospice - The Rotary Club of Rochdale East supports the fund raising activities of Springhill Hospice.

Also on the top table, from Springhill Hospice, was Chief Executive, Christine Webb and Chairman, Margaret Geoghegan MBE.

Following dinner, guests danced to the L.A. Session Trio, featuring Laurie Ash.

The Rotary Club of Rochdale East meet every Tuesday at Rochdale Golf Club, Edenfield Road.

The meeting starts at 6:30pm with a two course meal. This is followed by any Rotary business which usually lasts for around 20 minutes.

After Rotary business members are entertained by a speaker who may be a member of the club or a guest speaker.

The meeting usually finishes at around 8:30pm.
