Police appeal to crowd after man assaulted in Heywood

Police in Rochdale have made a direct appeal to a crowd of people who could hold vital clues to a vicious assault that left a Heywood man with a serious head injury.

At around 1.10am on Saturday 28 July 2007, the 25-year-old victim was found lying in the street outside Fubar, also known as Soho nightclub, in Market Street, Heywood.

Emergency services were called and, in the minutes before an ambulance arrived, a crowd of people had gathered around the injured man. It is thought someone in the crowd may have seen how the man came to be injured.

It is believed he had been hit over the head and kicked during the assault.

The victim was taken to Fairfield Hospital with a head injury and discharged later that day. However, in the following days his condition worsened and he was again taken to hospital. He was later found to have had bleeding on the brain and is currently in a stable condition.
