Chief Executive of Rochdale Borough Council, Roger Ellis, tucks into a school dinner
Children from Broadfield Community Primary School were joined for lunch by Rochdale Borough Council’s Chief Executive, Roger Ellis.
The visit was part of an ongoing commitment to provide healthy school meals and to encourage parents to get their children to have the meals provided.
The council operate the catering services within Broadfield School and are currently working on a project with the school, to produce menus based around the nationalities of the children.
Kathryn Knight, Headteacher at Broadfield School, said: “We were looking forward to this visit by Roger Ellis so he could experience our school dinners.
We have adopted a ‘whole’ school approach with the catering service to make sure we incorporate foods into our menu that reflect the nationalities of our pupils. This menu will eventually become a recipe book for general use for all the community.”
After lunch, Roger met the catering staff and discussed the project they are working on and the importance of children having the school meals, he said:
“It’s been a while since I was in a school canteen so it was good to see what is being served and all there was on offer at Broadfield. The council is working closely with all schools to ensure children and young people know how to eat healthily.
There is a tremendous amount of work going on - with healthier school meals, schools growing their own food, school recipe books and much, much more.”
