Schools cook up something special

Rochdale Borough Council is offering ‘Cook4Life’ sessions at 18 schools across Rochdale, for pupils, parents and the local community.

The sessions, to support the national ‘Change4Life’ campaign, will equip you with the skills in preparing healthy meals for your family and provide you with knowledge about health and nutrition.

There are three secondary schools, 14 primary schools and 1 pupil referral unit involved in the programme, which runs until mid July. After completion of this current programme, it is hoped to be rolled out to other schools in Rochdale.

Anna Dean, Nutrition Adviser at Rochdale Borough Council said: “So far the sessions have been really popular and have been a good way for school cooks to pass on to pupils and families their skills and tips for healthy eating.

Our catering service is working hard to promote healthy eating for children. It’s not just about providing healthy school meals, but making sure children have healthy choices at all other meal times as well.”

Stephen Granville, Assistant Township Manager has been working in partnership with the NHS and the catering service to provide the sessions in Rochdale, he said: “We wanted to provide sessions for residents that may help them cook healthy meals for their children. We hope more people are encouraged to sign up to the sessions and make changes for life.”

To find out more about these sessions, please visit www.rochdale.gov.uk/events or contact the participating schools to book a place for you or your child. Booking is essential.
