What's cooking? Councillor Farooq Ahmed shows fire officers a thing or two in the kitchen
Fire fighters swapped their hosepipes for kitchen utensils as part of a ‘learning at work day’ at Rochdale Fire Station.
Councillor Farooq Ahmed, who is also a chef at Veenas restaurant in Heywood, met with members of the Fire Brigade Union to show them a thing or two in the kitchen, as well as sharing his skills with employees from across the borough.
The event was part of a learning day so workers from across the borough could learn new things, including speaking Spanish and Asian cookery.
Event organiser Shaun O’Neill said, “The union wants to provide as many learning opportunities to employees as possible, and this event proved very popular indeed, and I would like to thank Farooq Ahmed for giving his time for this demonstration”.
“Whilst this kind of event gives us the opportunity to try new things it is also a great opportunity to also understand about cultural differences, and one thing that was highlighted was the risk of Asian ladies clothing catching fire when cooking in a crowded kitchen.
"This is particularly relevant to Asian ladies who wear saris, although it can be just as dangerous to any member of the community.
“We would urge everybody to be aware of the dangers of this happening and to take extra care when cooking.”
