Mayor and Mayoress in the parlour...

Date published: 21 May 2009

On his first day as the new Mayor of Rochdale Borough, still clearly excited following the previous evenings Mayor Making Ceremony, Councillor Keith Swift and Mayoress Sue Etchells talked to Rochdale Online about their pride and joy at being Rochdale's 'first citizens'.

Mayor Swift has served on the council for the past 12 years and has been a Business Development Executive for Rochdale Online since 2006.

Mayoress Etchells works in a varied role, including parliamentary and constituency management, for Rochdale MP Paul Rowen.

Both are music lovers, and of course Mayor Swift is well known for his Frank Sinatra tribute act.

Mayor Swift said he is really looking forward to his mayoral year. He and Mayoress Etchells were busy being briefed by Rina Paolucci, Mayor’s Secretary, as our photographer took the opportunity to take a few photos of them in the mayor's parlour at the Town Hall.

Photos taken Mayor and Mayoress were off to their first engagement, the opening of a new estate agent, Genesis, in town.
