Dads put in peak performance

A team of dads from Castleton Sure Start Children’s Centre showed off their football skills as they lined up for the Inter Children’s Centre Football Tournament on Saturday.

A total of 14 teams from Centres across Rochdale, Middleton and Heywood lined up to show off their football prowess at the contest which took place at St Mary’s Kick Pitch in Middleton.

The Ronaldo Rovers from Castleton set out with a group of travelling supporters of mums, relatives and of course the children who had made a supporters banner and a cardboard trophy to wave.

They also had a strip courtesy of Castleton After School Club who had designed and decorated T-shirts for them to wear.

The team glided through the first round, but were knocked out in the quarter finals. A fabulous day was had by all who took part and all those stood on the touchlines cheering the team on.

Parent Empowerment Worker for Castleton Children’s Centre, Shirley Jones said: “The tournament was the first of its type in Rochdale and gathered together over 80 dads to play with almost 150 other supporters for an exciting family day out.

“Our lads, cheered on by their families, pulled out all the stops and will no doubt do even better next year.”

The football tournament will now become an annual fixture Rochdale Children’s Centres calendar.

Rochdale Children’s Centres aim to encourage more dads to use the centres and their facilities with their children as well as promoting sport and a healthy life style. The event was organised in conjunction with Link4Life.

Castleton Sure Start Children’s Centre offer a full time table of events for families with children aged 0-5 throughout the week.
