Police host fun day
Date published: 21 May 2009
The Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team is hosting a community funday on Tuesday (26 May).
The event will run from noon until 3pm at St Thomas’ Church on Cavendish Road and will feature a host of activities including, craft stalls, face painting and tombola.
Entry to the event is free.
Event orgainser, PCSO Rachel Williams said: “This day has been designed for the community and will hopefully give youngsters something to do and enjoy and take part in during their half term break.
“It is designed to be a fun day out for everyone where people can also get some useful information from their local Neighbourhood Policing Team.”
Over the next week Rochdale Division is taking part in Safer Spaces, a Forcewide initiative aimed at encouraging the responsible use of public parks and open areas, which will see police officers carrying out a number of operations in support of their ongoing enforcement work to tackle anti-social behaviour.
This will include high visibility patrols around schools, parks and public spaces to provide reassurance and act as a deterrent to would-be trouble makers.
Inspector Michelle Hughes, said: “Police in Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team are committed to working with residents to tackle crime and anti-social issues. Parks and open spaces across the area can often attract a disproportionate amount of reports of anti-social behaviour and certain times of year generate increased calls to the police.
“The team is working with young people, parents, Youth Services and Rochdale Borough Council to encourage responsible use of parks and public spaces, reduce crime and the fear of crime and ensure these areas can be enjoyed by all the community.”
