Parents take on self defence courses
Date published: 20 May 2009
A group of young parents from Sandbrook Sure Start Children’s Centre will be celebrating completing a 12 week course in self defence on 1st June.
The group asked Liz Davies from Lotus Defence to provide a 12 week course covering the common mistakes people can make and becoming more aware of your surroundings, the law and people’s rights, evasive techniques, verbal judo (talking yourself out of trouble), body language and fight or flight, physical methods of using the body as a weapon, knowing the target zones and the striking arch, dealing with bullying and home safety.
The aim is to allow parents to feel confident when out and about and able to keep themselves and their children safe.
They will complete the course on 1st June when they will receive certificates for their achievements.
Sandbrook Sure Start Children’s Centre offer a full time table of events for families with children aged 0 – 5 throughout the week.
