Councillor Keith Swift will tonight (Wednesday 20 May) become the new Mayor of Rochdale, at a prestigious Mayor Making Ceremony at the Town Hall.
Council members, politicians and members of the public will join to support Councillor Swift, as the current Mayor, Councillor Robin Parker, hangs up his cloak and chain for the last time.
The new Mayor has said he hopes to focus on the youth of Rochdale during his post, and has chosen to give support to the Back Door Music Project, Rochdale Music Service, and Rochdale Youth Orchestra.
Councillor Liz Thirsk has taken over Councillor Keith Swift’s role as Townships & Corporate Management Portfolio holder.
The soon-to-be Mayor of Rochdale said: “I am looking forward to tonight and I have been at home rehearsing my speech.”
Rochdale Online News will report on the Mayor Making Ceremony tomorrow (Thursday 21 May).
