New cabinet announced

New cabinet members have been announced ahead of tonight’s meeting (Wednesday 20 May).

Councillor Liz Thirsk will be among the new faces on the cabinet, as she takes over from Councillor Keith Swift, who will tonight become the new Mayor of Rochdale.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Alan Taylor said: “Firstly, I would like to thank Councillor Irene Davidson for her help as acting leader.

"She has done an excellent job and I will continue to work with her as part of my leadership team.

"I am pleased to welcome a new face to the Cabinet in Councillor Liz Thirsk.
Councillor Thirsk has always been a much valued member of our group and I look forward to working with her more closely over the next year.”

He added: “I am also delighted to see Councillor Zulf Ali back on the Cabinet. Over the last year Councillor Ali has done a tremendous job on the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority for Rochdale and his experience will be invaluable to us over the next year.”

  • Children Schools & Families Portfolio: Councillor Zulfiqar Ali
  • Environment, Sustainability and Highways Portfolio: Councillor Irene Davidson
  • Housing Portfolio: Councillor Doreen Brophy-Lee
  • Townships & Corporate Management Portfolio: Councillor Liz Thirsk
  • Finance Portfolio: Councillor Greg Couzens
  • Older People Portfolio: Councillor Pauline Maguire
  • Community Safety & Leisure Portfolio: Councillor Ted Flynn
  • Regeneration Portfolio: Councillor Mohammed Sharif
