Introduction to the VCSP

Date published: 26 June 2007

The Voluntary and Community Sector Partnership (VCSP) was formerly known as the Community Empowerment Network and covers the whole of Heywood, Middleton, Pennines and Rochdale. It was developed to link the voluntary and community sector with public sector agencies like Rochdale Council, the Primary Care Trust and Greater Manchester Police through the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP).

The Voluntary and Community Sector Partnership currently involves 14 Networks:

  • BME
  • Children’s
  • Community Bases
  • Disability
  • Homelessness
  • Learning and Skills
  • Middleton Community Forum
  • Multi-Faith
  • Older People’s
  • Open
  • Tenants and Residents
  • Volunteering
  • Women’s
  • Youth Service Providers

It also has representatives from each of the four Township Area Partnerships (or equivalent) as well as the three Infrastructure Alliance Organisations (CVSR, RCD and RoFTRA) and is attended by the Council’s Community Affairs Team.

Joanne Nevitt is the Voluntary and Community Sector Partnership Coordinator. Her role involves making sure that the links remain between the voluntary and community sector and the Local Strategic Partnership and making sure that information is available to those who need it.

Currently the LSP is being reviewed and the VCSP is actively involved in this process. Also, the VCSP is taking this opportunity to review itself and its involvement with the LSP.
