Big award for local building

Rochdale Council and a local building contractor are celebrating after picking up the top prize at the North West Building Excellence Awards.

An extension and refurbishment project at the ‘All Bikes Rochdale’ building on Milnrow Road won the category of ‘Best Commercial Building Up to £1 Million’ at the North West Local Authority Building Control (LABC) awards evening at the De Vere White Hotel in Bolton.

Local building contractor, Niche Northwest Limited, based at Spotland Bridge, and the council’s Building Control team picked up the award from judges who were impressed with the quality of the project and the good working relationship between the contractor and the Council.

The awards recognise best practice and acknowledge the top designers and contractors in the region.

The awards are highly regarded in the construction industry, rewarding those that achieve the highest standards in building construction.

Mark Dalzell, Building Control Manager at Rochdale Council said he is delighted that the project had won such a prestigious award: “Involvement in these awards as a winner, or a finalist brings widespread industry recognition and so we are over the moon that a project in Rochdale has won! There was excellent cooperation between Niche Northwest and my Building Control Team and we are proud to have been involved in the project.”

Rochdale based architects CJ Partnership were also finalists at the awards in the category for ‘Best Domestic Extension’ for their work on a listed building in Littleborough.

Although not winners on the night, they were selected as finalists from over 50,000 projects across the North West.

The ‘All Bikes Rochdale’ building will now progress to the National LABC Building Excellence Awards, which will be held in London in October.
