Castleton Carnival
Castleton Carnival is alive and kicking – and will go ahead at the end of July.
The treasurer, Frank Cryer, appealed for help through Rochdale Online News to keep the carnival spirit alive, after watching it become “smaller every year”.
But after some positive feedback and support from local people, a date has been confirmed and a variety of acts, dancers and decorative vehicles are raring to go.
The carnival, which runs from Chesham to Springfield Park, has been a precious tradition in the town for decades.
A car boot sale is to take place in Springfield Park on 25 July, followed by the carnival itself on Sunday 26 July.
He said: “Over the years the number of floats have gone down, and so has the number of people who are involved.
“I know how everyone still loves the carnival, so hopefully some people would like to come forward to help us breathe some new life into it”.
“We are still looking for any sponsors and organisations who would like to take part, any help would be so highly appreciated, let’s get our carnival back”.
