On your marks...Factor 50 fund-raisers Gillian Nuttall and Andy Worthington with some of the drivers and marshals from Formula Ford NW
A leading racing organisation is driving home the sun safety message by proudly displaying the logo of a local skin cancer charity on its race cars.
British Formula Ford North West is zipping around circuits with the logo for factor50, a charity which is part of the Christie and raises money for malignant melanoma research, proudly emblazoned on its cars.
Andy Worthington, a factor50 fund-raiser, said that drivers and marshals are regularly out for up to 12 hours a day during the summer and that they were more aware of the importance of skin protection following a factor 50 sun and skin awareness talk.
Ian Smith, national co-ordinator of Club Formula Ford and Matt Hawkins, co-ordinator of Formula Ford NW said: “The drivers and marshals are very aware of the damage that can be done by being out in the sun for prolonged periods without proper precautions and protection.
“We are pleased to be able to help raise awareness of Malignant Melanoma and wish Factor 50 every success with its fund-raising and awareness campaign.”
Gillian Nuttall, fund-raising manager for Factor 50, said: “The safest thing is to stay out of the sun altogether but the next best thing is to cover up with high factor sun block and keep covered with light clothing.”
