Rochdale Infirmary has been named as one of the top 40 hospitals across the UK.

CHKS, which provides healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services, announced the winners at an awards ceremony in London.

The organisation monitors hospitals and their targets, and the awards celebrate excellence among trusts across the UK based on 21 key performance indicators.

These indicators include safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care. The Pennine Acute Trust, which runs hospitals in Oldham, Rochdale, Bury and North Manchester, made the top 40 out of 120 hospital trusts monitored.

John Jesky, trust chairman, said he was delighted for the staff who had worked hard to gain this recognition.

He added: “This is the first time The Pennine Acute Trust has been included in the CHKS Top Hospitals’ group.

“The award is a tribute and reflection on all the staff at The Pennine Acute Trust, who have worked hard to achieve excellence.

“The clinical criteria that CHKS applies to measure best performance are an important benchmark for us and acts as an encouragement to do even better in the year ahead.”

James Coles, director of research at CHKS, said: “We are delighted that The Pennine Acute Trust has been named as one of our 40 Top Hospitals 2009.

“These awards recognise outstanding performance in 21 areas which we believe are critical to delivering good patient care.”
