Police staff in team-award debut

Date published: 11 May 2009

Staff at Greater Manchester Police have been awarded for outstanding performance in contact management.

GMP's Operational Communications Branch were given a team award, the first of its kind, at a special ceremony in Manchester on Wednesday (6 May).

Judges at this year's Contact Centre Management Awards were so impressed with each of GMP's nominees - all from the Operational Communications Branch - they couldn't decide on a winner, leading them to award the whole team.

The awards ceremony is designed to promote good practice throughout the contact centre industry. Emergency service contact centres have been included as part of the national body for the past two years.

Branch Commander Chief Superintendent Andy Lang said: "This award couldn't be have been better, the CCMA judges carried out a number of visits as part of the judging process and were blown away by what we in the branch already know.

"Our successes aren't about individuals, they are about the work of every member of our 1,000-strong team each time they answer a call from the public or each time they command and control an incident, or carry out the important support roles in HR or Finance and Admin.

"I'm really pleased this award recognises teamwork is the glue that joins us all, from senior leaders through managers to each member of staff on each shift. I'm really proud."
