Pupils prepare for language fun
Date published: 10 May 2009
Pupils from Broadfield Community School were treated to a special visit from overseas, as they prepared for their new language sessions starting this autumn.
The school was one of several in Rochdale to be visited by a group of teachers and school staff all the way from Spain.
Rochdale Borough Council organised the trip as an attempt to get children to enjoy speaking new languages.
Key stage two pupils will be taught one hour a week of French or Spanish as part of a new language entitlement, from September this year.
Teachers have already undergone intensive training in preparation for the new languages they will be teaching.
Sue Brown, head of schools at Rochdale Council, said: "This eagerly-awaited visit gave children a flavour of the language they will be studying.
"It was part of our ongoing commitment to build and maintain links with European schools and it was a great chance for the Spanish teachers to see our schools and the way we teach."
