Less shoppers? Less parking attendants
Date published: 09 May 2009
Rochdale Borough Council is chopping the number of working hours of parking attendants – following a shrink in town centre shopping scene.
A recent decrease in the volume of shoppers in the town centre, following a decline in shops and stalls, has lead to a revenue crisis, prompting the council to cut costs.
Fixed penalty notices are issued at £50 for minor offences and £70 for major offences.
A Rochdale Borough Council spokesman said: ‘A review has shown that a reduced level of service is needed from Parking Attendants before 9am and after 5pm, there will still be attendants operating outside these core hours but not as many as before.’
Full details on statistics will follow on Monday.
