Residents 'Come Together' to get 'Something' done about crossing
Date published: 07 May 2009

Not quite Abbey Road, but it is now safer to cross Norden Road in Bamford.
A pedestrian crossing on a busy Bamford road is now complete, allowing safer access to Bamford Primary School for children.
Local residents called for the crossing because of the difficulties in getting to the school and local shops across the busy Norden Road.
Ward Councillors William Hobhouse and Andrew Abbott took up the issue three years ago and secured funding from the Rochdale Township for the traffic lights and crossing to be installed.
Councillor Hobhouse said: "Residents approached me three years ago about the need for some sort of crossing because there are always lots of people around needing to cross over to and from the shops and school.
"The absence of somewhere safe to cross has forced many residents to drive to the Precinct shops.
"Councillor Andrew Abbott and I took the issue to the Rochdale Township, which has £1 million to be spent on projects for local communities, and we managed to secure the funding necessary.
"I’m glad that local residents have now got the crossing that they have wanted and needed for many years."
Councillor Andrew Abbott added: "Many residents remain worried about the speed of cars on Bagslate Moor Road, Norden Road, Martlett Avenue and War Office Road. We will be seeing how the crossing works, and consulting with residents how we can further improve the area for pedestrians and for the community."
