Public exhibition of Ealees canal-side development

Date published: 12 July 2007

An exhibition of plans to regenerate a canal-side site in Ealees, Littleborough with new homes, shops, a restaurant, gallery and café has taken place at Littleborough United Reform Church.

The revised plans follow on from earlier consultation events, taking into consideration views given by the local community.

They include proposals for 36 homes, two small retail units, a restaurant/bar as well as a trendy gallery and café that could feature the work of local artists. Previous plans were to be apartment led, but the new proposals include more traditional lower rise houses.

Architects Taylor Young have been appointed to the scheme and have used a different design approach, whilst maintaining the impressive mix of uses.

John Boys of Brother Developments said: “The redevelopment of this canal side area in Ealees will bring opportunities to the town and help create jobs. The proposals would see the area sensitively developed with quality modern housing, as well as a pub-style restaurant, shops, gallery and café that would be enjoyed by the whole community. It would also make the area more vibrant, attracting people to the town. We are encouraging people to share their views on the revised plans.”

An outline planning application is expected to be submitted to Rochdale Council later this summer.
