Former Manchester United and England football star Bryan Robson took to the field at Spotland Stadium to lead a Co-operative ‘elite’ team against a team of stars from stage and screen.

The game was a fund raiser for the Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID).

Led by head coach Bill Tarmey, Jack Duckworth from Coronation Street, the Co-operative ‘Allstars’ team included other stars from Coronation Street such as Alan Halsall (Tyrone) and Ryan Thomas (Jason).

The line up also included stars from Hollyoaks such as Nico Mirallegro (Newt) and Nick and John Pickard (Tony and Dom).

Other celebs included Ralf Little and Will Mellor (Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps), singer Richard Fleshman and Geoff Brazier (Sky Sports).

Liz Matkin, Sponsorship Manager for the Co-operative Group, said: “This was an exciting fixture for the Co-operative in our home town. The match was a great way to entertain families on Bank Holiday Monday and we raised much needed funds for the RNID so we were delighted to be part of it.”
