CCTV stills of youths trespassing at Heywood railway station

Date published: 02 May 2009

Police are releasing CCTV images of youths trespassing on a private railway station in Heywood.

The stills are the latest captured at East Lancashire Railway between 29 March and 18 April.

Officers are urging people to stay away from the property and warning that anyone caught trespassing on the line or platform will be prosecuted.

This Police response has been necessary due to a small minority of the public who have ignored previous warnings and continue to endanger themselves, staff and passengers by trespassing on the railway.

Police Sergeant Valerie Lamb from the Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "The station has had ongoing problems with youths causing criminal damage when trespassing, and we are currently investigating a more serious incident where a train driver was hit by a stone thrown by youths.

"While I am not saying these youths are responsible for these incidents, they are committing a crime by trespassing and I would appeal to anyone that recognises them to contact the police."

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0161 856 8589 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
